Essentials of Reinsurance

At this time it is not possible to register. We expect that from 2025 it will be possible to register again.

Sixth edition Essentials of Reinsurance

The first five editions of this course were a great success! The sixth edition will be provided in English in the first semester of 2024 if there are sufficient enrollments. As soon as the dates are known!

Reinsurance is becoming an increasingly important topic for financial service providers, and also for the regulator. But in the current training offer, this subject is still not (fully) covered and is at most a small part of insurance technical modules. The Dutch Reinsurance Association, together with the UvA Academy for Banking and Insurance, has now taken the initiative for the new course. The course will consist of four half-days and will focus on a broad target group.

Target group
The course is intended for anyone who comes into contact with the reinsurance profession and has an academic working and thinking level:
– employees working for reinsurers;
– insurers who buy reinsurance;
– reinsurance brokers;
– supervisors;
– directors/supervisory board members;
– consultants from actuarial, accounting, tax and legal backgrounds.

Dates
Spring 2024 (dates to be announced). Language English

Fifth edition of Essentials of Reinsurance programme

Since spring 2020, there is a training course in the Dutch insurance market available on the basics of the reinsurance profession, entitled Essentials of Reinsurance. The course has been set up by the UvA Academy for Banking and Insurance (UvA ABV) in cooperation with the Dutch Reinsurance Association (NRV). The aim of the course is to bring the knowledge of reinsurance in (and around) the industry to a higher level.

On Friday 15 November 2019, NRV and the UvA ABV signed their cooperation plans.

Although the NRV is still relatively young, the interest is quite high. Currently, over 200 persons from the reinsurance industry are members of the association. Active involvement in reinsurance activities is a requirement for membership of the NRV. The members work for (captive) insurers, reinsurance brokers, financial consultants or government agencies related to the reinsurance industry.

Reinsurance is an increasingly important topic for financial service providers, and also for the supervisory authorities. But in the existing training offer, the subject was still underexposed and formed at best a small part of insurance technical modules. The Dutch Reinsurance Association, together with the UvA Academy for Banking and Insurance, has therefore taken the initiative for this new course. The course comprises four half-days and is aimed at a broad target group. The training course is currently offered twice a year and has been a great success so far!

Target audience

The programme is intended for everyone who deals with the reinsurance profession and has an academic work and thinking level and is working as:

  • director / (supervisory) board member;
  • consultant from an actuarial, fiscal or legal field
    and/or is employed at a:
  • (re)insurer
  • reinsurance broker
  • regulator
  • accounting firm.
